Expert Witness Legal Wound Care Consulting is led by Dr. Seana Rutherford, DNP, MSN, APRN, FNP-C, CWS®, WCC, a nationally recognized wound care clinician and expert witness with extensive experience evaluating complex wound-related medical and legal cases.

Dr. Rutherford is a Doctor of Nursing Practice–prepared Nurse Practitioner and a Certified Wound Specialist® (CWS®) through the American Board of Wound Management. She has nearly a decade of advanced clinical experience managing acute and chronic wounds across long-term care, skilled nursing, home health, and post-acute settings—environments that account for a significant portion of wound-related litigation nationwide.

Her work focuses on objective, evidence-based evaluation of wound etiology, progression, prevention, and management, with particular expertise in pressure injuries, diabetic foot ulcers, venous and arterial disease, and wound complications in medically complex and elderly populations.

Dr. Rutherford is deeply familiar with standards of care, CMS and Medicare regulations, documentation requirements, and interdisciplinary wound management expectations. She routinely evaluates whether clinical care aligned with accepted medical standards while also identifying when outcomes were unavoidable despite appropriate treatment.
